Car versus tree crash on Hannegan Rd required extensive effort to get driver out

WHATCOM COUNTY, Wash. — First responders were dispatched about 6:45pm on Friday, March 14, 2025, due to reports of a car versus tree crash in the 6100 block of Hannegan Road.

According to first responder radio transmissions from the scene at the time, the driver was pinned inside the vehicle, unable to get out under their own power.

Crews from North Whatcom Fire & Rescue worked on safely extricating the driver for over an hour before a Bellingham Fire Department ladder truck was dispatched to assist.

Witnesses reported the driver was extricated about 7:30pm and transported from the scene by ambulance.

Hannegan Road was reportedly closed in both directions for over an hour.

There was no immediate information regarding the condition of the driver nor the cause of the crash.
