BELLINGHAM, Wash. — Today, Friday Bellingham Police Department (BPD) issued the following request for witnesses present during a shooting incident last night that reportedly sent 1 man to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.
On Jan. 18, 2024, at approximately 7:46 pm, Bellingham Police Department officers responded to the 4000 Blk of Northwest Ave, in Bellingham, regarding a report of a shooting. Officers located one male on the ground with what appeared to be a gunshot injury and another uninjured male (later identified as 32-year-old Matthew Coltrane). The injured male was transported to the hospital in reportedly life-threatening condition. Probable cause was established to arrest Mr. Coltrane for Felony Assault. Investigation is ongoing regarding what led up to the shooting. Due to footage pulled from surveillance cameras in the area, detectives believe other people were present who witnessed the incident.
