Bellingham Police ask public’s help to locate hit-and-run vehicle

BELLINGHAM, Wash. — Bellingham Police issued a statement on Wednesday, March 11, 2026, asking for the public’s assistance in locating a vehicle involved in an injury hit-and-run incident.

BPD Traffic Investigators are seeking public assistance locating a hit-and-run vehicle from a vehicle/pedestrian collision at approximately 6:59 a.m. this morning (March 11) on Cottonwood Ave. at W. Maplewood Ave.

The truck is a dark color with oversized tires (smaller rims, larger tires) and it has a brush guard on the front. The headlights were described as yellow led type with the right one possibly burned out. We do not have a make or model for the truck, nor do we have a specific description of the driver.

The driver of the truck was coming east on Cottonwood Ave, did not stop at the posted stop sign and hit the pedestrian and dog in the middle of the crosswalk. The driver stopped briefly at Shuksan Meadows Park and then fled north on W. Maplewood Ave.

We are seeking any information from people who were in the area at the time, driving through with dash cams on, or who have security cams at their house with a view of the intersection of Cottonwood Ave and W. Maplewood Ave.

The pedestrian and the dog who were struck, both sustained injuries requiring medical intervention.
