Bellingham bicyclist dies after crash in September

SEDRO-WOOLLEY, Wash. — Washington State Patrol issued a “delayed” press memo Wednesday, December 10, 2025, detailing a car versus bicycle incident that occurred on the North Cascades Highway (SR20) in Sedro-Woolley on September 21, 2025.

The press memo said a 2006 Toyota Tacoma pickup driven by a 26-year-old Sedro-Woolley man was northbound on Sterling Road, preparing to make a left turn onto westbound North Cascades Highway. The bicyclist, identified as a 44-year-old Bellingham woman, was crossing the highway “from an unknown side of the roadway.”

The pickup struck the bicycle and came to a stop on the westbound shoulder of the highway. The bicycle and bicyclist came to rest in the eastbound left turn lane of the highway.

The bicyclist was declared deceased at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. She was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
