Updated: 1 dead, 1 injured in Ferndale apartment fire

FERNDALE, Wash. — First responders were dispatched about 7am on Thursday, December 5th, to an apartment complex on Eastview Place in Ferndale due to a report of a fire.

Initial reports from Whatcom County Fire District 7 (WCFD7) firefighters at the scene were that flames were visible from the 2nd floor of a 3-story apartment unit.

2 injured persons were reportedly discovered during search of the apartment by firefighters.

According to the PulsePoint EMS dispatch log reporting system, at least 1 patient was transported from the scene to PeaceHealth St Joseph’s Medical Center by a medic unit.

After 20 minutes on scene, it was reported the fire was knocked down and firefighters were beginning the overhaul phase.

Ferndale Police Department issued a joint statement with WCFD7.

Two individuals were located inside the residence. Despite resuscitation efforts, one individual was pronounced deceased, while the other individual was transported to the hospital in critical condition.

The cause of the fire is being investigated by the Whatcom County Fire Marshal’s Office.
