9/11 Procession Comes Through Ferndale

Photo: Discover Ferndale

A procession of fire fighters, law enforcement and other first responders made their way up I-5 through Ferndale this morning, September 11th, (see video below) as part of 9/11 commemoration and memorial ceremonies on both sides of the border.

The US procession followed a breakfast in Anacortes and ended at the Peace Arch Park, the location of a memorial service honoring first responders, military and members of the public from both sides of the Canadian and US border. A similar Canadian procession would also arrive at the park at the same time.

The public was invited to greet the procession from overpasses along the route. Neighbors from the Ferndale community were out doing just that. Neighbors of all ages showed up with flags of all sizes. Before the procession arrived one neighbor told Discover Ferndale, “I’m already tearing up.”

A local firefighter, who wished to remain anonymous, had brought several large flags and handed them out to neighbors on the West Smith Road overpass.
