Normally it would take powerful winds or freezing rain to cause the rash of power outages some neighbors in Ferndale have had to endure today, a day without strong winds or freezing rain.
Just as some neighbors in the Maureen Drive neighborhood (northwest of Thornton Street and Vista Drive) saw their power restored, nearby neighbors, directly west in the Aquarius Avenue and Apollo Drive neighborhood, lost power.
The Aquarius Avenue/Apollo Drive neighborhood outage has been blamed on trees/vegetation while the Maureen Drive outage is the result of equipment failure.
All this follows a widespread outage early this morning that impacted over 5000 neighbors between downtown Ferndale and northern Custer. Power was restored to all by 6am. The cause was not reported by PSE.
Then over 50 neighbors in the Maureen Drive neighborhood lost power again shortly after 8am. That outage was blamed on equipment failure. By 4:45pm all but 26 had power restored and the estimate to restore power for those still without was ultimately set to 8:30pm.
As of 7:10pm, PSE reported 16 Maureen Drive neighbors were without power and they should expect their power restored by 8:30pm.
Neighbors in the Aquarius Avenue/Apollo Drive neighborhood can expect their power restored by 9pm. Update: As this article was being written (7:35pm), PSE reported their power had been restored.
