An arrest has been made in an incident in Snohomish County which Washington State Patrol (WSP) was seeking relevant witness reports and dash-cam videos of reported racing and a subsequent fatal crash.

The fatality collision occurred about 1pm on January 20, 2025, in northbound lanes of I-5 north of the Stanwood exit (SR532) interchange when a silver 2012 Infinity G37 sedan was northbound on I-5 when it attempted to pass traffic using the left shoulder. It lost control and crossed all lanes of traffic and struck the trailer of a white 2020 Kenworth T680 semi-truck.

According to the WSP, witnesses to the collision reported the Infinity was racing a green 2021 Dodge Challenger prior to the collision. Witness videos showed the Dodge had pulled over at the scene.

The WSP arrested the driver of the Dodge, identified as a 20-year-old man, and charged him with suspicion of vehicular homicide. According to Snohomish County Jail records. He made a preliminary appearance in Snohomish County District Court where bail was set at $100,000. He posted bail and was released from custody.

WSP Trooper Kelsey Harding told Whatcom News via email, “RCW 46.61.520 [indicates] that operating a vehicle in a reckless manner or with the disregard for the safety of others are also part of vehicular homicide.”
