BLAINE, Wash. — The Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office arrested 2 fugitives from Tennessee on July 26th after they and other law enforcement agencies acted on information from Tennessee law enforcement.
According to court documents in Whatcom County Superior Court, WCSO deputies were contacted by Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office detectives seeking assistance in locating 2 fugitives with ties to Whatcom County who had outstanding arrest warrants. The detectives provided an address for a family member in the area of Delta Line Road and W 95th Terrace along with photos of a vehicle they were known to be driving.
Michael Amandeus Brooks, age 27, was wanted for suspicion of 1st-degree murder and Kayla Lynn Brooks, age 26, was wanted for suspicion of being an accessory to a felony after the fact.
WCSO detectives went to the address and located the suspect vehicle by way of an unmanned aircraft. They were also able to locate the suspects through surveillance of the property. A search warrant was obtained by the WCSO and the suspects were arrested and placed into the Whatcom County Jail without bail.
There was a nationwide extradition noted on the warrants meaning that Tennessee was requesting the suspects be surrendered to their jurisdiction for trial.
Both appeared in court on July 29th and waived their right to oppose Tennessee’s extradition request.
Both are scheduled to appear in Whatcom County Superior Court again on August 22nd.
