GLACIER, Wash. — First responders were dispatched about 2:55pm to an area of the north fork of the Nooksack River Tuesday, June 14th, due to a report of people in the water after a raft overturned.
Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office (WCSO) Spokesperson Deb Slater told Whatcom News via email that deputies determined there were 5 people on board including a guide when the raft capsized.
The guide was able to get 2 people out of the water while 2 others were swept downstream.
Summit-to-Sound swiftwater search and rescue and Border Patrol Search, Trauma and Rescue (BORSTAR) began a search and rescue effort for the missing people. A body was later located.
Search and rescue personnel will be back out today, Wednesday, June 15th, to resume the search.
My heart and sympathy goes out to family and friends of this tragedy.
