A young driver learned the hard way tonight why “street closed” signs remain in place on Washington Street between Vista Drive and 2nd Avenue.

According to Ferndale Police officers on the scene, too much speed on a roadway under construction was the suspected cause of a single vehicle accident that occurred about 9pm tonight on Washington Street near Vista Drive.

The 17-year old driver and his passenger were checked out by paramedics on the scene and determined not to have suffered any injuries.

The vehicle required being towed out since at least one front wheel was submerged up to the axle in the soft dirt and gravel of the roadway under construction.

One officer related to Discover Ferndale how they are seeing drivers not taking the warning signs seriously as they drive the full distance of the construction zone, a citable offense.
