WWU student dead after apparent fall at Nash Hall

BELLINGHAM, Wash. — First responders were dispatched to Nash Hall dormitory on the Western Washington University campus about 10:40pm on Wednesday, October 9th, due to a report of a deceased person. According to emergency services radio broadcasts at the time, a person was located and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) effort begun but the person was declared deceased at the scene.

Officials with WWU issued the following statement today, October 10th.

The university is deeply saddened to confirm the death of a student last night after an apparent fall from Nash Hall, an on-campus residence hall. Emergency services were called at around 10:30 p.m., arrived on the scene and administered medical assistance. At this time, law enforcement is examining the case. They have indicated that there are no indications of foul play, and that there is no danger to the broader community. The student’s family has been notified and will be receiving support from the university and emergency personnel.

WWU President Sabah Randhawa expressed, “I am heartbroken to learn that we have lost one of our students. On behalf of the WWU community, our hearts go out to the students’ family, friends, and classmates. We understand that this news is hard to take in, and we encourage anyone who needs support to use the resources available through the university.”
Student affairs professionals and counselors are prepared to provide support and resources for Resident Advisors and other students as needed. Students and community members who are struggling are encouraged to seek help.
The WWU Counseling and Wellness Center will provide assistance to any student impacted by this incident. Students may contact the office at 360-650-3164 for support. Employees may access the Employee Assistance Program, 877-313-4455. Both numbers are available 24 hours a day.
