CUSTER, Wash. — A Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office (WCSO) deputy running with emergency lights and siren enroute to assist another deputy at an active incident was involved in a crash today, Saturday, April 26, 2025, about 4:35pm on the Grandview Road overpass at I-5.
The Washington State Patrol told Whatcom News the WCSO patrol vehicle was westbound on Grandview Road on the I-5 overpass when it yielded to a transit bus entering Grandview Road westbound after exiting the I-5 southbound lanes.
According to witness reports, a van following the bus failed to stop at the stop sign at the end of the off-ramp and was struck by the patrol vehicle.
The involved vehicles were moved to the southbound I-5 on-ramp which was closed until the vehicles could be towed from the scene.
There were no injuries, and the incident remains under investigation according to the WSP.
