BELLINGHAM, Wash. — Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office said today, Wednesday, March 13th, that an inmate at the Whatcom County Jail died and another was hospitalized. Both inmates were found in the cell they shared.
The individual who died was one of two inmates in a cell; both were found in conditions indicating possible drug overdoses. Corrections deputies and members of the jail medical team responded immediately to administer naloxone (also known as Narcan) and CPR. Despite continuing life-saving measures by responding Emergency Medical Services, one could not be revived. The other individual was transported to PeaceHealth St. Joseph Medical Center for additional treatment. Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office (March 13, 2024)
The circumstances of the death will be investigated by Law Enforcement Mutual Aid Response Team (LEMART). LEMART is a multi-jurisdictional investigation team.
