Updated expected timing and impacts for tonight’s expected thunderstorm system

WHATCOM COUNTY, Wash. — Forecasters in the Seattle office of the National Weather Service (NWS) have issued updated forecast details regarding the expected timing and impact of a thunderstorm system expected to sweep south to north across much of western Washington, including Whatcom County tonight, Saturday, August 17th.

According to NWS forecasters, the system is expected to arrive at the Washington-Oregon border by 5pm, Whatcom County around 11pm and the US-Canada border around midnight.

In anticipation of the heavy rains expected to accompany this weather system, a flash flood watch is in effect until Sunday morning for the west slopes of the north Cascades and passes, including in Whatcom County.

In addition to the expect rains, small hail and gusty winds are expected.

Rains are expected to continue in Whatcom County into noon tomorrow, Sunday, possibly lingering into the afternoon.
