BELLINGHAM, Wash. — First responders were dispatched about 10:45am, Monday, March 21st, to the area of E Sunset Drive and Orleans Street due to a report of a transformer arcing and wires sparking nearby.
A power outage was also reported in the area and electronic traffic signals were impacted.

Puget Sound Energy reported 1,922 customer addresses were impacted by the outage as of 11:30am. The estimate for restoring power at that time was 1pm.
As of 12:25pm, PSE cited a bird or animal as the cause of the outage. PSE Spokesperson Andrew Padula told Whatcom News in an email, “Our service crews responded and discovered a squirrel had gotten into our electrical equipment causing the power outage.
