Bellingham Police notified neighbors in the Lake Terrell area yesterday not to be concerned if they hear a loud boom and see smoke nearby today about 1pm.
That is when the Bellingham Police Hazardous Devices Unit scheduled their annual disposal of explosive devices using controlled charges in the remote area of the county.
According to Bellingham Police Lieutenant Claudia Murphy, “The explosives are those which have been impounded over the course of the year and stored in our explosives locker at a safe location.”
Murphy said, “Yesterday, letters were hand delivered to residents near the area of Lake Terrell as they are the most likely to really hear the explosions and perhaps see smoke. Set to begin at 1:00pm, they will be over in less than a minute.”
