Whatcom County Public Works closed Slater Road overnight due to water over the roadway.
The closure follows the Nooksack River level rising to 17.5 feet.
Traffic will be detoured via Imhof Road and LaBounty Drive to Main Street.
No official estimate has been given for when the road will be reopened.
Slater Road closures typically result in an dramatic increase in traffic on Main Street. Drivers should be prepared for delays and consider alternate routes to avoid Main Street.
