CUSTER, Wash. — First responders were dispatched about 7:30am on Monday, April 21, 2025, to the area of I-5 and the Custer School Road overpass due to a report of a single vehicle crash.
Washington State Patrol issued a statement about 7:55am that this was fatal crash. “There is currently no detour as Interstate 5 is partially blocked allowing traffic to still get by. Please be patient as this could cause traffic congestion.”
The Washington State Patrol issued a press memo about 1:15pm that said a 34-year-old Blaine man was driving a 1998 Mazda Protege sedan northbound on I-5 when it left the roadway to the right, struck a tree, rolled over and came to rest in bushes.
The driver was determined to have been wearing a seatbelt, and drugs or alcohol were determined to have been involved. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
