BELLINGHAM, Wash. — First responders were dispatched about 9:40am on Wednesday, December 27th, to a report of a semi-truck and trailer that had crashed into the median on I-5 in the area of the Lakeway Drive interchange.
Initial reports were that the truck was not blocking any lanes of I-5. First responder apparatus were blocking the southbound left lane and there was dirt and debris in the southbound lanes.
Motorists can expect delays through the area for an extended time in both directions due to the emergency response and apparatus required to retrieve the truck and trailer from the median.
The trailer reportedly contains shipped packages according to Washington State Patrol radio transmission from the scene.
This was determined to be a non-injury crash.
Update 2pm – officials with the Washington State Department of Transportation say traffic impacts are expected to continue through the area and a 2-mile traffic back-up in the northbound lanes had formed.
