FERNDALE, Wash. — First responders were dispatched to the northbound lanes of I-5 north of the Slater Road interchange about 11:35pm on Saturday, March 29, 2025, due to reports of a rollover vehicle crash.
Initial radioed reports from first responders at the scene were of a vehicle off the roadway and a vehicle on its top in the roadway. 2 occupants were reported to have been ejected and another unaccounted for. A search of the area was conducted for the unaccounted person.
The Bellingham Fire Department personnel transported 2 patients from the scene to PeaceHealth St Joseph Medical Center via medic units.
Washington State Patrol Trooper Kelsey Harding told Whatcom News that the driver of a 2006 white Chevrolet Trailblazer was outside the vehicle changing the rear passenger side tire when the Chevrolet was struck by a 2023 black Dodge Charger that had veered onto the right shoulder. The collision pushed the Chevrolet and its driver into the ditch.
Harding said no one was ejected from a vehicle in this incident. It appeared the unaccounted person was the result of confusion which was cleared up when they were located away from the scene. Both drivers were transported by emergency medical personnel to the hospital.
Harding did not have access to the collision report so was unable to cite a cause or identify if any citations or charges resulted.
