Rollover crash injuries send Bellingham man to Harborview

BELLINGHAM, Wash. — First responders were dispatched about 7:15pm on Tuesday, July 23rd, due to a report of a single-vehicle rollover crash on I-5 south of the Nulle Road interchange.

Washington State Patrol (WSP) issued a press memo that said investigators determined a 2003 Jeep Wrangler was northbound on I-5 when it drifted to the left and entered the median. The driver overcorrected to the right causing the Jeep to roll multiple times across both lanes. The Jeep came to rest approximately 50 feet down an embankment on the right side of the roadway.

The driver, identified as Jose A Figueroa Zamora, age 29 and of Bellingham, was transported from the scene and airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.

It was determined Figueroa Zamora, the only occupant, was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

While the cause remains under investigation, drugs or alcohol were determined to have been involved.

According to the Washington State Department of Transportation, the right lane through the crash scene was closed until just before midnight while the car was recovered and the crash investigated.
