UPDATED: Rockslide closes Chuckanut (SR11) south of Whatcom-Skagit County line

BOW, Wash. — The Washington State Patrol (WSP) warned motorists about 9am on Tuesday, April 22, 2025, of “a fully blocking rockslide on State Route 11 near milepost 10. Troopers on scene are reporting that it is greater than 20 feet high and there are large boulders.”

The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) confirmed, adding the slide was, “just north of Blanchard Rd (MP 10) there is an incident blocking all lanes.”

No estimate for clearing the slide and reopening the roadway was immediately available.

WSP added that the slide is not impacting Amtrak service through Bellingham.

Update @4pm, 4/22/25:
WSP issued a statement that the closure is expected to remain for multiple days up to a week, possibly longer. WSDOT said “The northbound closure point is at Chuckanut Manor (milepost 9.5). The southbound closure point is at Oyster Dome trail head (milepost 10).”

WSDOT emphasized the road is “Closed to all travelers including bikers, walkers and rollers.” They added, “Geotechnical engineers will assess the area again on April 23.”
