BIRCH BAY, Wash. — First responders were dispatched about 5:10pm on Thursday, February 15th, to the 7300 block of Clamdigger Drive in Blaine due to reports of a residential fire.

North Whatcom Fire & Rescue (NWFR) Division Chief Jon Ahrenholz told Whatcom News the fire was limited to a single room in the house. An occupant was located on the back porch and transported to PeaceHealth St Joseph Medical Center due to minor smoke inhalation.

Firefighters were able to put out the fire quickly according to Ahrenholz. They cut a ventilation hole in the roof to ensure the fire had not reached the attic space.

Firefighters from NWFR, Lynden Fire and Whatcom County Fire District 7 responded.

The cause of the fire is being investigated by the Whatcom County Fire Marshal’s Office.
