The structure housing the original water intake next to the Main Street Bridge got some recent attention as Whatcom County Public Utility District #1 did some pressure washing and took down an external tank. While there are no plans to put the structure to any new use, a PUD spokesman said they “wanted to be good neighbors and clean it up.”
In the past, this intake was used to pull water from the river for the many different PUD customers but has sat unused since another one was built a short way downriver near the City of Ferndale’s water treatment plant.
