Power outages leave over 1,500 in the dark during snow event

WHATCOM COUNTY, Wash. — Puget Sound Energy reports 1,587 of their customers’ addresses are without power as of 12:40pm on Wednesday, January 17th, during a significant snow event.

The largest outage was located at the time in the area of Glacier and reportedly impacted over 1,000 addresses. This outage was reported about 9:50am and as of 12:45pm was expected to be restored by 3pm.

Hundreds were impacted by other localized outages in the Geneva and Chuckanut neighborhoods. Both were reported to have begun about noon.

At the time, nearly a foot of new snow accumulation was being reported in areas across Whatcom County while temperatures remained just below freezing.
