WHATCOM COUNTY, Wash. — A weather station in Ferndale is reporting a 52mph gust shortly after 2am, Wednesday, December 18th, and over 1.4 inches of rainfall in the 24-hour period ending at 9am.
Officials with Whatcom County Public Works and the City of Ferndale report the following road impacts as of 9:30am.
- Water over the roadway
- Lampman Road at Haxton Way in Ferndale
- Ulrich Road at S Church Road in Ferndale
- Imhof Road at Ferndale city limits
- Slater Road east of the Nooksack River bridge
- Ferndale Road north of Marine Drive
- Marine Drive west of Ferndale Road
- Aldrich Road south of W Smith Road in Ferndale
- W Smith Road east of Northwest Drive in Ferndale
- 400 block and 200 block of E Wiser Lake Road in Lynden
- 600 block of Kelly Road in north Bellingham
- Van Wyck Road east of Dewey Road in north Bellingham
- Closed
- W Smith Road between LaBounty Drive and Scout Place – water over roadway
- E Smith Road between Sand Road and Mt Baker Highway – low-hanging wires
Puget Sound Energy reported, “Damaging winds have caused outages in our service area, with major impacts in King, Pierce and Thurston counties.” They added that they have temporarily disabled outage notifications via email, text and automated calls.
Readers report scattered localized power outages across Whatcom County.
Forecasters in the Seattle office of the National Weather Service said this morning to expect dry conditions this afternoon through tonight. Looking further out, “Another frontal system will move across western Washington later Saturday for lowland rain and mountain snowfall. A stronger system is expected to approach the area on Sunday for additional precipitation. Ensembles suggest this active pattern continues through at least the middle of next week, with systems accompanied by lowland rain, mountain snowfall and breezy winds.”
