The many log cabins set among majestic cedar trees at Pioneer Park will soon be aglow with holiday spirit this Friday through Sunday during the upcoming 27th Olde Fashioned Christmas in Pioneer Park. “Christmas in the Woods” is this year’s theme.
Volunteers with the Ferndale Heritage Society host the celebration as a gift to the public. It kicks off following the community tree lighting at Centennial Riverwalk Park.
“Each year visitors come out to share in this tradition,” explains event organizer Linda Harkleroad. “It’s truly a step back in time as we help you begin your holiday season.”
Pioneer Park is home to 15 historic log cabins including the 1-room Congregational Church, built in 1876, where carolers sing and the wooden pews invite reflection.

Click for more informationChildren are invited to visit the 1-room schoolhouse to write a personalized letter to Santa and then deliver it to the 1-room post office cabin for mailing to the North Pole.
Old-fashioned printing will be demonstrated at the 1878 Lopas House, while the 1873 Jenni House will be hosting square dancing, crafts and delicious smells of traditional Christmas baking.
Thanks to the new board stamped concrete sidewalks, guests will not even get their feet wet while moving from cabin to cabin while being greeted by costumed volunteers opening the doors and letting the holiday cheer spill into the winter air.
Shoppers of all ages will find inexpensive trinkets for loved ones at the Parker House cabin, which is now the general store and pharmacy.

Holiday displays, craft-making, games and music continue at the Veteran’s Museum, Foster House, Granary and Larsen cabins.
Local entertainers and musicians will be volunteering their talents for guests’ enjoyment.
Quiet visits with draft horses in the Barr Barn and festive refreshments in the Tillicum House complete the experience, which may begin or end with horse-drawn wagon rides through the streets of Ferndale.
The 27th Olde Fashioned Christmas will be open Friday, December 6th, from 5pm to 9pm, Saturday, December 7th, from 1pm to 9pm, and Sunday, December 8th from 1pm to 5pm.
