Obituary: Susan L Johnson

Susan Johnson, formerly Peterson, passed away on May 23, 2026, and is now reunited in heaven with her husband, Ed Johnson, her beloved brother, Bob Peterson, and her sisters, Marlene Mihelich (formerly Peterson) and Sandra Conger (formerly Peterson) — siblings to whom she was especially close, along with her parents, Margaret Lindholm and Harold Peterson.

Susan was born on July 15, 1953, in Anacortes, Washington, and attended Anacortes High School. For many years she was an active and devoted member of First Baptist Church in Anacortes, later continuing her faith journey at Emmanuel Baptist Church in Mount Vernon, WA. She loved Jesus wholeheartedly, and her faith shaped every part of who she was.

Susan was a force — a survivor with a deep, abiding love for her community. She poured that same strength and warmth into her family.

She is survived by her two daughters and their partners, her four grandsons and their partners, and her two great-grandchildren, all of whom she loved dearly.

A service celebrating Susan’s life will be held at 1:00 PM on September 19, 2026, at Emmanuel Baptist Church, 1515 E College Way, Mount Vernon, WA 98273, followed by light refreshments.

In keeping with Susan’s wishes, we ask that attendees wear a touch of red in her honor, rather than black, as we gather to celebrate her life. Please join Samantha Murdoch, her partner Forrest Barlow, and her sons Nathan and Andrew Murdoch in honoring Susan’s memory. Anyone who holds a fond memory of Susan is warmly welcome to attend, and note cards will be available at the service for guests to share their favorite memories, which will be gathered into a keepsake memory book for the family.

We take comfort knowing Susan is now dancing and playing cards again with her beloved siblings, together once more.
