FERNDALE, Wash. — Bellingham Mural Artist Khara Ledonne has painted murals in places as far away as Italy, New York and Mexico but this month she has been working on a 50-foot mural in Ferndale.
Ledonne said she connected with the property owners through a friend-of-a-friend connection and they hired her to paint the mural based on a design of poppies they had fallen in love with.
She contacted Lori Gomez , the creator of the poppy mural design, and received her approval to use the design as the basis for the 50-foot mural located near the intersection of N Beulah Avenue and Thornton Street.
Painting began early this month and Ledonne said she was only able to work on it about 2 days a week due to her other responsibilities.
She expects to complete the project today, August 26th.
Ledonne said while working on this project she found herself reminiscing about how, 20 years ago, she was an intern with Bellingham Mural Artist Lanny Little and painting historical murals in Bellingham.
