New Ferndale Municipal Court judge named

Bellingham attorney Mark A. Kaiman has been appointed as the next Ferndale Municipal Court Judge, a part-time position, according to a press release. Kaiman will replace Judge Terrance Lewis who recently announced he will be retiring effective December 31st after 17 years of service to the community.

According to a press release provided by Kaiman’s law firm, Lustick Kaiman & Madrone PLLC, Kaiman served as a Judge Pro Tempore in Whatcom County District Court for the last 4 years. In addition to his judicial experience, Kaiman has been a deputy prosecutor and is currently in private practice as a military and criminal defense attorney.

Kaiman will preside over non-traffic infractions, traffic infractions, criminal misdemeanors and gross misdemeanors. The court schedules arraignments, pre-trial hearings, non-jury and jury trials, sentencing and reviews. The Ferndale Municipal Court convenes at 5694 2nd Avenue most Friday mornings.

Judge Lewis was recently honored with a reception at the Ferndale Police Station and during the regular meeting of the Ferndale City Council on October 15th.

According to City staff, Kaiman is expected to be sworn in during a regular City Council meeting in December. His initial 4-year term will begin January 1, 2019.
