Mt Baker Highway crash sends motorcyclist to hospital

WHATCOM COUNTY, Wash. — First responders were dispatched to the intersection of Everson Goshen Road and Mt Baker Highway (SR542) this morning, March 30th, about 6am due to a report of a crash.

Initial radio reports from the scene were of a motorcycle versus pickup truck crash.

Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office deputies closed Everson Goshen Road between E Smith Road and SR542 while aid crews attended to the victim, Washington State Patrol troopers investigated the crash and the wrecked vehicles were cleared.

Washington State Patrol Trooper Rocky Oliphant said their investigation revealed the 2021 Chevrolet pickup truck was eastbound on SR542 when it stopped and then proceeded to turn left onto Everson Goshen Road northbound, colliding with the westbound motorcycle. The motorcycle collided with the pickup truck’s front bumper.

A patient was transported from the scene by a medic unit to PeaceHealth St Joseph’s Medical Center in Bellingham according to the public safety dispatch log provided by PulsePoint.

The pickup truck driver was reported to have been wearing their seatbelt and airbags were deployed due to the impact.

Neither driver was suspected of being impaired by drugs or alcohol according to Oliphant and the pickup truck driver was cited for failure to yield the right of way.
