Morning crash blocks I-5 through Bellingham

BELLINGHAM, Wash. — First responders were dispatched about 8am on Tuesday, February 24, 2026, to the northbound lanes of I-5 at the Whatcom Creek overpass due to report of a multicar crash.

All lanes were blocked until about 8:20am when 1 lane was reopened. By that point, northbound traffic was backed up 2 miles to the Samish Way off-ramp.

There were no initial reports of injuries. At least 2 vehicle suffered heavy damage and were towed from the scene.

Both lanes were reopened about 9:40am. According to radio transmissions from the scene, it was a 6-vehicle crash with no reportable injuries.
