Morning apartment fire displaces 2, cat lost

FERNDALE, Wash. — The What-Comm 911 call center received a call reporting smoke could be seen coming from a door to an apartment in the Ferndale Square Apartments complex in the 2200 block of Main Street this morning, June 18th. Whatcom County Fire District 7 (WCFD7) personnel and Ferndale Police were dispatched about 5:50am.

WCFD Fire Chief Larry Hoffman said the 2 occupants were able to evacuate on their own and were not injured. Hoffman noted the occupants’ cat was lost in the fire.

An investigation into the cause was being conducted by the Whatcom County Fire Marshal’s Office and Ferndale Police.

The Red Cross had been contacted to assist the displaced occupants.
