WHATCOM COUNTY, Wash. — Forecasters with Environment Canada and the National Weather Service (NWS) have been issuing thunderstorm warnings today, Sunday, August 18th, due to weather systems that have been moving north across western Washington.

The Seattle office of the NWS has issued localized weather statements as the thunderstorms have been moving northward. Forecasters said, “In any thunderstorm that does develop, the primary impacts are gusty erratic winds, frequent lightning, and heavy rain.”
Environment Canada issued a severe thunderstorm warning for the southern and southeast coasts of Vancouver Island. The warning advises residents to be alert for potential heavy downpours, large hail and strong winds.
This weather system is expected to be less threatening than a larger thunderstorm system that rolled over the area last night.
