BELLINGHAM, Wash. — On May 6th at 1:50am, Bellingham Police officers were dispatched to a report of a burglary in process at an apartment on Whatcom Street.
According to an affidavit of probable cause provided by Bellingham Police and filed in Whatcom County Superior Court by prosecutors, the What-Comm 911 Center call receiver was initially told someone with a gun had broken into the apartment. The call receiver could hear crashing in the background and a male yelling.
Upon arriving, an officer saw a male run across the road and get into a vehicle with 2 other males and leave the area at high speed. The vehicle got on I-5 southbound and eluded pursuing police vehicles. It was reported the suspect vehicle reached speeds over 120mph in the process.
Skagit County law enforcement were notified and a Washington State Patrol (WSP) trooper located the vehicle but it eluded them as well.
Bellingham Police officers interviewed the victims in the apartment who reported 2 males wearing masks forced their way in and threatened them with handguns and rifles or shotguns. At least 1 shot was fired that hit a lamp and entered a wall but did not strike anyone in the apartment.
1 of the males had a black bag and pointed a gun at the victims’ faces while making threats and instructing them to “give me all your s***.” He said that if he found out later that they failed to do so, he would be back.
A victim was pistol-whipped during the robbery resulting in a severe head laceration and contusion.
Victims reported recognizing the voice and stature of the male with the bag, identifying him as Shaun Brimeyer, age 18. He had a relationship with a friend of the victims that had ended in March. He had visited the apartment on 1 prior occasion according to the victims. They were not able to identify the second suspect.
The 2 suspects left taking a game console, cash and miscellaneous items.
On May 7th, an arrest warrant was issued for Shaun Patrick Brimeyer given probable cause existed to arrest him for robbery, burglary, assault, harassment, eluding. A charge of unlawful possession of a firearm was included since he has prior convictions for robbery and assault.
Yesterday, May 20th, a Washington State Patrol trooper made a traffic stop on I-5 near Stanwood in Snohomish County and, according to Trooper Rocky Oliphant, identified Brimeyer in the vehicle, took him into custody and transported him to the Whatcom County Jail where they booked him.
