Man arrested in injury hit-and-run with a cyclist in Bellingham

BELLINGHAM, Wash. — First responders were dispatched to the 800 block of Alabama Street in Bellingham about 10am on Friday, August 22, 2025, due to a report of a car versus pedestrian crash. Initial reports from witnesses were that an involved pickup truck had left the scene eastbound on Alabama Street.

The Bellingham Police Department (BPD) issued the following statement about 11:50am.

BPD is looking for what appears to be a 90s Ford Pickup, two-tone with a pinstripe. It has dark rims and a hitch-mounted carrier with a black and red lawn mower on the back. The truck had two red gas cans in the back along with a white pole. It was last seen southbound on Orleans Street from Alabama St.

Patrol responded to the 800 block of Alabama St for a hit and run collision at 10:04 a.m. this morning. The truck struck a bicycle and the cyclist sustained serious injuries requiring transport to the emergency room.

Our investigators are looking for any information, witnesses, or dash cam footage which will assist in identifying the driver of this truck.

BPD announced they have a suspect in custody about 2pm.

The suspect and his truck have been located. The driver, a 35-year-old male, was arrested for felony hit and run and is being booked into the Whatcom County Jail.

Whatcom County Jail records show Bellingham Police had booked Moses Puga, age 35, into the jail charged with suspicion of hit and run with injury. No bail was being allowed until such time as bail could be set during a preliminary hearing in Whatcom County Superior Court.
