UPDATED: Lummi Island ferry service suspended due to steering issue – again

FERNDALE, Wash. — Officials with the Ferry Division of Whatcom County Public Works announced about 9:30pm today, January 1st, they had suspended service of the vehicle ferry, Whatcom Chief, between Gooseberry Point and Lummi Island.

They cited an electrical issue with the steering system as the reason for the service interruption.

Service was suspended for about 5 hours yesterday for the same reason.

Ferry Division officials say they are expecting only a 1 hour delay.

UPDATE 10:55pm
Officials reported they have returned to regular ferry service.
