Lummi Island ferry out of service due to mechanical issue

About 10:15am today, the Whatcom County Public Works Ferry Division announced they had taken the Whatcom Chief out of service.

According to the Ferry Division, they suspended service due to steering issues and mechanics were already on board.

No estimate for when service would be restored was given.

Update 11:15am
Ferry officials say the mechanics have diagnosed the issue and repairs are underway. The estimate for making repairs and restoring service is approximately 2 hrs.

Update 1:30pm
Ferry officials announced Whatcom Chief has returned to service.
