BELLINGHAM, Wash. — Whatcom News received inquiries and news tips about 3 incidents that occurred over the night of Saturday, October 28th. The following are recaps based on unconfirmed radio transmissions at the time by law enforcement.
About 8:45pm, Bellingham Police and Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the 4100 block of Meridian Street due to a report of a possible burglary in progress at a business.
Over the next 2 hours, law enforcement worked to assess the situation and give anyone inside the business the opportunity to safely surrender to police. Police ultimately entered the business and found no one inside. An investigation into the initial report as continuing as responding personnel were cleared to take other calls.
Before midnight, a Washington State Patrol (WSP) trooper attempted a traffic stop on a vehicle that refused to stop and led the trooper and other law enforcement personnel on a high-speed pursuit with speeds reaching 100mph. The path of the suspect vehicle included Woburn Avenue, Lakeway Drive, Old Fairhaven Parkway and Samish Way. The pursuit was discontinued in south Bellingham. It was about this time, reports of a serious injury rollover crash on I-5 were being received.
Officials with the Bellingham Police Department did not immediately respond to a request for details.
