Large law enforcement presence in Ferndale parking lot after assault suspect refuses to exit vehicle

FERNDALE, Wash. — A large law enforcement presence resulted after a domestic violence suspect being sought by Lynden Police Department (LPD) refused to comply with law enforcement when approached while in an SUV parked outside a Ferndale restaurant.

About 7:30am on Tuesday, May 13, 2025, initial unconfirmed reports from the scene near the intersection of Barrett Road and Main Street were that the suspect was actively arguing with the driver of the SUV. The driver was soon after reported safe inside the restaurant. The passenger was reportedly not compliant with officers’ request to exit the SUV.

About 7:45am, law enforcement radioed the suspect had been detained after a non-lethal method to gain compliance was deployed.

About 8:30am, a 23-year-old Lynden man was arrested and booked into the Whatcom County Jail by Lynden Police and charged with 4th-degree domestic violence assault, obstructing law enforcement and resisting arrest.
