BELLINGHAM, Wash. — Both lanes of southbound I-5 were being diverted at the Sunset Drive off-ramp while first responders dealt with an incident under the overpass.
According to witness reports, sometime after 1pm on Friday, January 19th, a person reportedly seen on the overpass ended up in the southbound lanes.
The left lane of northbound I-5 was also being closed through the incident scene.
As of 1:45pm, Washington State Department of Transportation officials said there was no estimate for reopening the lanes and alternate routes were recommended.
Update 3pm: WSDOT reports all lanes have been reopened.
Update 7:30pm: Bellingham Police reported the person involved was deceased and a death investigation was underway.
