UPDATED: Head-on motorcycle vs RV crash on Bay Road sends 1 to the hospital

FERNDALE, Wash. — First responders were dispatched about 1:25pm today, Wednesday, March 2nd, due to a report of a crash involving a motorcycle near the intersection of Bay Road and Bruce Road.

Whatcom County Fire District 7 Division Chief Ben Boyko said they arrived to find the motorcyclist laying 100 feet from where it appeared they had collided head-on with an eastbound recreational vehicle at the west end of the corner with Vista Drive.

Boyko said the motorcyclist was transported by a medic unit to PeaceHealth St Joseph Medical Center with serious injuries via advance life support (ALS) protocol.

Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office (WCSO) is investigating the crash and Washington State Patrol (WSP) are assessing whether drugs or alcohol were involved.

According to WSP Trooper Jacob Kennett, WCSO determined the motorcycle crossed the center line and collided with the RV.

Motorists can expect the section of Bay Road between Bruce Road and Olson Road to be closed during the investigation.
