FERNDALE, Wash. — Whatcom County Fire District 7 (WCFD7) and North Whatcom Fire & Rescue crews were dispatched about 3:55pm today, January 6th, to a report of a commercial structure fire in the 6900 block of Salashan Parkway.

Workers at the Home Fire Prest Logs manufacturing facility noticed smoke coming from a wall and called 9-1-1 according to WCFD7 Division Chief Ben Boyko. “They kept water on it, keeping the fire in check until we got there,” Boyko said by phone.

Boyko said it appeared the fire started in some machinery and spread inside a wall. Fire crews were kept busy locating hot spots in challenging locations behind machinery and dousing them.

No injuries were reported.

Boyko said the Whatcom County Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause of the fire.
