Whatcom County Fire District 7 Fire Chief Larry Hoffman started off today’s District Commissioners’ Meeting with the acknowledgement, “We are making fire district history today as we swear in the district’s first woman commissioner.”

Kendra Cristelli was sworn in at this afternoon’s meeting as the newest District 7 Ferndale Fire Commissioner. Cristelli was selected from a group of applicants for the commission seat previously held by Al Saab who earlier this year announced his retirement from the commission after serving for 20 years.

Cristelli is a lifelong Whatcom County resident and attended Ferndale schools. She currently serves as Support Officer Community Care executive director. Support officers provide victim and law enforcement advocacy in times of crisis.

Cristelli also serves on the Ferndale School District communications advisory committee, assists at the Interfaith Coalition’s severe weather shelter and participates with non-profits such as Pass the Hat in Whatcom County.

She immediately took her place alongside the other commissioners, Eric Grant and Mike Murphy, following the swearing in ceremony.
