Update: 10:50am 9/23/19: It is back in service. According to Ferry Division officials, the last morning run will be made today and subsequent runs will be on schedule.

Whatcom County Ferry Division officials announced about 7pm today, September 22nd, that the passenger van shuttle service on Lummi Island is suspended until further notice.

The service suspension was due to a mechanical failure. No estimate for when service may be resumed was given.

Ferry Division officials announced last week the vehicle ferry, Whatcom Chief, is due to return to service on the Lummi Island run Tuesday afternoon, September 24th, after being in dry dock for its annual maintenance.

While the Whatcom Chief has been in dry dock, a passenger-only ferry has been carrying passengers between Gooseberry Point and Lummi Island. Along with the passenger-only ferry, a van shuttle service has been operating on the island side since some islanders had to leave their only means of transportation at Gooseberry Point.
