Borthwick Jewelry Owner Tom Borthwick has a problem other retailers would love to have. In light of the closure of 2 prominent Bellingham jewelers in recent years, Borthwick says he has had to double his inventory to keep up with demand according to recent press release.
In addition, Borthwick announced he will be celebrating his business’ 20th year in business with an anniversary celebration and open house on Thursday, September 14th, from 2pm to 6pm. The open house will feature a 5-carat round, brilliant-cut diamond valued at $125,000 and refreshments.
Borthwick and his son, Max Orrantia-Pieper, handle most repairs at the store, reducing turnaround time for their customers. “If you have a problem, we’re here to fix it,” Borthwick said.
Borthwick has 30 years of experience in retail jewelry and Orrantia-Pieper is undergoing training to become a Gemological Institute of America certified appraiser. Borthwick opened his store in downtown Ferndale in 1997, then moved it to the current location in the North Sound Center, 1730 LaBounty Drive, Suite 5, in 2004.
