Ferndale man arrested and charged in I-5 rollover crash

FERNDALE, Wash. — Robert Theodore Dodge, III, age 54, was arrested and booked into Whatcom County Jail today, January 21st, by Washington State Patrol following a rollover crash last night that sent him and 3 others to the hospital

According to WSP, a Toyota Dodge was driving struck the rear of a northbound black 2019 Nissan Rogue SUV occupied by a man, woman and a 11-month-old child. The Nissan rolled and came to a stop off the roadway on its top.

The 3 occupants in the Nissan had to be extricated by firefighters and the woman and child were transported, the woman by air, to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. The he man was transported to PeaceHealth St Joseph Medical Center.

It was reported a Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office deputy had discontinued pursuing Dodge after attempting a traffic stop and Dodge fled at high speed.

Jail records show that Dodge is being charged with suspicion of the following crimes.

  • driving under the influence
  • attempting to elude a police vehicle
  • reckless driving
  • vehicular assault
  • possession of a stolen vehicle

Dodge remained in custody pending a preliminary appearance in Whatcom County Superior Court when bail may be set.

Dodge has prior felony convictions for possession of a controlled substance, burglary and threats and was currently awaiting trail for felony retail theft.
