The Ferndale Girls Basketball Association 5th grade girls team went 3 and 1 in Spokane this past weekend to take 3rd at the Washington State Middle School Basketball Championship in Spokane, March 15th to the 17th.
15 teams across the state competed for the title. Ferndale beat Kamiak 31 to 16 and Woodinville 32 to 25 before losing to Lake Stevens 29 to 34. This set up a game with Skyline for 3rd place.
The girls found themselves down by 11 points to Skyline with just under 6 minutes left. But a stifling defense held Skyline to 0 points while Ferndale went on a 15-point scoring run to win the game with a final score of 32-28.

According to parent John Wirts, “Although the Ferndale girls fell short of their goal of back-to-back championship titles, they definitely accomplished a great comeback to end the season.”
The team had an overall season record of 25 wins and 7 losses.
