False report, “swatting,” call brings large law enforcement response to Whatcom residence Sunday

WHATCOM COUNTY, Wash. — First responders were dispatched about 1:40pm Sunday, December 14, 2025, to a residence on Fazon Road due to a report of an active shooter. Multiple agencies responded and determined it was a false report.

There has been a large law enforcement response around the Mission-Goshen area. The call was determined to be unfounded; it was a so-called swatting call. “Swatting” is a hoax 911 call that falsely reports a serious crime. WCSO will lead an investigation into the origin of the call.

Our thanks to Lynden, Bellingham, Everson and Sumas Police and to State Patrol, who all responded to assist.

In Washington, swatting is classified under false reporting laws. The state has established penalties for false reports that lead to emergency responses, with more severe consequences if such actions result in injury or death. First-degree false reporting is a class B felony if it leads to death.
